Children's Literacy Publications

The publishing company Children’s Literacy Publications (CLP) was founded in 2001 by teacher Janet Caruthers, Ed. S. It was established after Janet became aware of the huge gap in basic vocabulary evident in her students and others. The books CLP publishes all focus on building vocabulary in infants through adults.

Our motto is “Everything Has a Name. How many do you know?” Our books help children and adults increase those numbers. Children’s Literacy Publications is dedicated to helping teachers and parents create better readers.

Janet Caruthers earned a B.A. degree from the University of South Florida in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Years later, she earned an M.S. degree in English and an Ed. S. (Educational Specialist) degree in reading from Nova Southeastern University. She also earned an ESOL endorsement through Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Her education, plus her 29 years as a teacher in Title I schools—including serving as an Academic Intervention Specialist—has given her firsthand knowledge of what children really need to know to ensure they are successful readers.
